On Friday, Javy Baez got the night off. On Saturday, it was Anthony Rizzo’s day for a break. And today, Kris Bryant sits on the bench. Here’s the Cubs lineup for the finale against the Brewers.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
1. Ian Happ, CF
2. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
3. Willson Contreras, DH
4. Kyle Schwarber, LF
5. Javy Baez, SS
6. Jason Heyward, RF
7. Jason Kipnis, 2B
8. Victor Caratini, C
9. David Bote, 3B
Now, while I fully believe in the value of rest for your best players, particularly when they’re struggling, I am a little surprised (disappointed?) to see Bryant out of the starting lineup. He’s played in just *26* games this season with only 115 PAs, despite leading off to start the year and otherwise always batting at the very top of the order. David Bote has more PAs than him and part-time players like Nico Hoerner (104 PAs), Victor Caratini (103 PAs), and Jason Kipnis (99 PAs) are right behind him. If anything, I think he needs to be in there as much as possible. Earned or not, this team is going to play in October and they need Bryant to be back to normal – healthy and effective.
In any case, the Cubs are facing Adrian Houser today, who’s got pretty extreme lefty/righty splits for his career:
v. LHH: .293/.376/.477 (.363 wOBA)
v. RHH: .223/.281/.349 (.272 wOBA)
It’s even more extreme this season, when lefties have hit .358/.424/.579 (.427 wOBA) off Houser with 5 homers and 10 walks to just 12 strikeouts. He’ll get six left-handed batters today.
Anthony Rizzo is currently at a ridiculous +735 to HR off Adrian Houser *w/ aCubs win* at DraftKings today.
Houser's splits v. LHH:
2020: 358/.424/.579 (.427 wOBA)
Career: .293/.376/.477 (.363 wOBA)Extreme GB and soft% guy, but I'm rolling the dice: https://t.co/KoTqImC9K7
