For those who want to experience that holiday spirit a month early, Suisun Harbor Theater is bringing back last year’s Holiday Fair this Saturday.
In 2019, the theater hosted its inaugural craft fair in downtown Suisun City with vendors, crafts, music, raffles and more. Wendy Ferrell, a board member at Suisun Harbor Theater, said the event came from a love of craft fairs.
“I go to all the local craft fairs,” she said. “I put them on my calendar.”
Ferrell decided to put one on as a fundraiser for the theater. It ended up eclipsing her expectations.
“People came from all over our county,” she said. “It was great to see many familiar faces, including Mayor (Lori) Wilson.”
This year, the coronavirus forced some changes, including moving the event outside, but the spirit will remain intact. Ferrell said signs will be posted requiring masks, booths will be spaced 10 feet apart, bathrooms will be sanitized frequently, and vendors will be wearing gloves and cleaning pens after each use.
Even with the forecast calling for rain, Ferrell is hopeful the event will go on as scheduled.
“We’ve all been sending up good wishes to Mother Nature that whatever the weather, make it mild,” she said.
This year, the fiar will have a total of 19 vendors, selling everything from holiday crafts to jewelry to bath products to crocheted items to plants to handbags.
“Our fair really caters to first-time vendors, people who are crafty, and have wondered about selling their work, but never have,” Ferrell said. “One third of our vendors are first-time sellers.”
Harbor Coffee, which opened earlier this year at Harbor Arts Center, will be hosting Duncan’s Lo-Ca Breads, which will serve keto-friendly treats. There will also be live music from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a raffle with a free ticket to win a gift basket for everyone who signs up for Suisun Harbor Theater’s mailing list.
Since Suisun City will not be holding its annual Christmas at the Waterfront, Ferrell hopes the fair will provide some much-needed holiday cheer, especially for those who have been cooped up for much of the year because of the virus.
“I’m looking forward to seeing smiles, hearing laughter, and the melodies of familiar holiday music,” she said. “I hope that everyone that comes to the festival leaves with a little holiday magic, a warm belly, maybe humming a tune, with a smile in their heart.”
The fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 720 Main St.
