The 17th annual Roseville Holiday Craft Fair is moving online this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The volunteer-run craft fair, ordinarily held at Roseville City Hall, supports educational programs at the Harriet Alexander Nature Center (HANC) through vendor fees.
Many of the same vendors are participating this year despite the change in venue, although local jewelry vendor Beverly Diaz has lowered her expectations for sales.
“I have done a couple of these over the years; I haven’t been super successful when it is online,” she said. “It is definitely a different type of person who goes to craft shows, and they usually don’t buy online.”
To compensate, the fair will run for five weeks this year instead of just a weekend.
The online marketplace offers plenty of gift ideas, from jewelry to fabric and yarn, photos, candles, soaps, pottery and woodwork. Almost all the vendors run small businesses in the Roseville area and have been loyal to the fair for years.
In years past, the fair has helped vendors get their names out and build customer loyalty. The craft fair experience is much different from shopping online, Diaz said.
“It’s a really fun atmosphere at craft shows,” she said. “I like having contact with people. I don’t usually do online things, so COVID-19 has really affected me.”
The online marketplace opened Friday and runs through Dec. 31 at holidaycraftfair.com. The site also has a link for donating directly to the nature center.
