About the Position

We are looking to add a Quality Assurance Lab Technician to our production team. The ideal candidate has a passion for cider; a background in food science or food production, enology or wine-making, chemistry, microbiology, or related academic field or equivalent work experience; and a willingness to get dirty -- you won’t be working exclusively in the lab!

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Quality Assurance in day-to-day operations 

  • Perform routine analyses on ingredients and finished products to ensure the production of high quality products. Analyses may include: TA titration, SO2 titration, in-can oxygen, ethanol content, juice YAN assay, glu/fru assay, and sensory evaluation

  • Follow lab and production SOPs

  • Assist in batch preparation including calculations, evaluation, and troubleshooting

  • Bench-trial recipe or ingredient changes and perform necessary analyses

  • Support Research & Development of new products

  • Ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations through accurate measurements, thorough recordkeeping, and effective communication

  • Identify and track quality issues and trends

  • Assist in the maintenance of lab equipment

  • Ask for help when needed

Requirements

  • Must be 21+ years of age

  • An understanding of the basic quality parameters of alcoholic beverages and of the general fermentation process

  • Attention to detail: accurate recordkeeping is critical to this position

  • Ability to troubleshoot and take corrective action on the line

  • Ability to work in an environment that may be hot, cold, wet, slippery, and/or loud

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, microbiology, enology or food science OR work experience in beverage production, chemistry labs or the wine, beer or cider industry

  • Preferred: hands-on experience with titrations, UV/Vis spectroscopy, distillation

  • Plus: experience and certifications related to food safety / HACCP
