Washington's Alex Smith now has his own 'bloody sock game' thanks to Twitter - Sporting News

Washington quarterback Alex Smith suffered a nasty cut above his left ankle Monday night, reportedly when a teammate stepped on his leg during a play against the Steelers.

Fox Sports cameras offered a close-up shot of blood seeping through Smith's sock and running onto his cleat.

Smith remained in the game.

It's important to note that the cut was not to the leg that broke in a game two years ago. An infection from that break almost killed Smith.

And because Twitter is often unoriginal, almost immediately there were lots of comparisons to the Curt Schilling "bloody sock" game in the 2004 ALCS between the Red Sox and Yankees — and lots of skepticism about whether Schilling's sock was, in fact, bloody.
