There was no fresh, locally caught Dungeness crab for Christmas. Or New Year’s.
But there’s no reason why you can’t turn any ol’ January day into a celebration. After a two-month delay in the opening of the commercial crab season, it’s finally time to get cracking.
Here’s an alphabetical roundup of Bay Area seafood purveyors and grocers that are selling local crab now — or will be very soon — along with restaurants that are adding crab dishes to their menus. However, supplies may be limited and some markets and restaurants are already reporting sellouts by noon. Make sure to call to check on availability.
