2022 offensive lineman Zyrus Craft drawing in-state SEC interest - 247Sports

2022 offensive lineman Zyrus Craft and his Mount Olive High School teammates came oh-so-close to breaking a long postseason drought. Despite a winning record (5-4), Mount Olive lost a tiebreak for the final playoff seed in the district.

Despite that disappointment, Craft was able to expand his game in the trenches during his junior campaign.

"We almost made the playoffs and that would've been the first time for our school since 2010," said the 6-foot-6 and 354-pound Craft. "But we did some good things. I was at left tackle in our regular sets or at guard in our heavy formations. Sometimes they used me at tight end in our heavy sets and I played all over the defensive line."

Craft began his prep career at Magee High School before transferring to Mount Olive before his junior season. Last year was also a first for Craft regarding the amount of reps he got on the offensive line.

"Compared to my sophomore year I was 10 times better," Craft added. "When I was a sophomore I was mainly on defense and I played in spots on offense. But I went both ways this season. I got in good shape and I got my breathing under control."

At the next level, Craft collected his first Division 1 offer before his junior season kicked off. Over the past few months he has also drawn steady interest from others.

"South Alabama offered me and that was last year," said Craft. "I am getting high interest from Mississippi State and Ole Miss. Tulane and Memphis have been showing pretty good interest, too."

Regarding Mississippi State, Craft noted of his previous conversations with the Bulldogs' staff. Thus far he likes the feedback he has received.

"Mississippi State has been contacting me a lot," said Craft. "During the season they sent me 'good luck' messages and told me I can impact their program. They've put a lot of great player in the league like Chris Jones, Dak (Prescott) and Martinas Rankin, who is with the Chiefs."

Craft mentioned that early on in his recruitment, the Bulldogs prefer his skills set on the offensive line.

"I've talked to Coach (Mason) Miller and Dave Emerick and their recruiting coaches," Craft said. "Some schools have talked about me as a defensive lineman but Mississippi State is recruiting me as an offensive line. Coach Miller tells me all the time to keep working hard and wants me to get better every day."

Naturally, Craft is eager to add to his offers' list. And he hopes that turns out to be an SEC offer from the in-state programs.

"Honestly, it would be great if I got offers by Mississippi State or Ole Miss," said Craft. "Mississippi State is one of the schools I've looked up to since I was young. I've been up there so many times to see games and I like their coaches. I like the coaches at Ole Miss, too, and I have a good relationship with them, too."
