Last year's The Basketball Tournament didn't end the way Carmen's Crew expected. The team, made up mostly of former Ohio State players, came into the 2020 edition of the TBT as the defending champions, after taking home the title for the first time the summer before, and the No. 1 seed in the bracket-style, single-elimination tournament.
Instead of going on another run in the bubble environment created by the TBT in Columbus, Ohio due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Carmen's Crew lost in the first round to House of Paign. One player who was most disappointed about this early exit from the TBT was Aaron Craft. This is because, at the time, the point guard thought that could be his last professional basketball game.
Craft announced prior to the 2020 TBT that this would be his last go-around because he planned to retire when it was all over. While Craft could still bring it on the court, he was ready to move on to the next stage in his life, something he'd talked about since his playing days at Ohio State, going to medical school.
Since that disappointing loss, Craft started med school at Ohio State and his family -- wife Amber and son Owen -- have moved back to Columbus after spending the last six years moving around Europe while Aaron played professional basketball. But it seems Craft's career may not be completely over, at least not as far as Carmen's Crew and the TBT is concerned.
In speaking with The Columbus Dispatch's Adam Jardy this week, Craft revealed that he hasn't ruled out the possibility of rejoining the likes of William Buford, Jon Diebler and other former Buckeyes who are expected to be a part of Carmen's Crew's roster once again this summer.
“We’ll see,” Craft told The Dispatch. “I do have the summer off. I will say that. It’s my last full summer off, so we’ll see if it (TBT) can move forward and where this whole pandemic thing is leading us toward.”
Following the loss to House of Paign last July, Craft said something similar. Coming off a game in which his team not only lost, but he also suffered a knee injury, Craft wasn't ready to make any kind of commitment on whether he would return to play in the 2021 TBT.
“My knee hurts a lot right now,” he said. “I don’t know, man. There is a lot going through my mind and a lot of emotions. I don’t how chubby I will be next summer anyway. They may not want me back if I’m out of shape and worse than this year. I have no idea. I can’t say yes and I definitely can’t say no.”

Craft obviously has plenty to look forward to with his family and his medical career. But he has long loved playing basketball and especially with this group that has remained close, even after their Ohio State playing days. Will Craft jump at the opportunity to return for one more chance to play in the TBT with Carmen's Crew? That's yet to be determined, but it also hasn't been ruled out.
