1. The Howard Hughes Corp. announced that an extension of a temporary retail location from The Brookwood Community at Hughes Landing will begin Jan. 26.

Brookwood, a Brookshire-based nonprofit vocational and residential community for adults with disabilities, will offer locally made crafts and gifts from its storefront at 2025 Hughes Landing Blvd., Ste. 900, The Woodlands, through April 24.

“We are extremely grateful to The Howard Hughes Corporation for extending this generous gift of retail space," Brookwood CEO Vivian Streit Shudde said in a statement. "We have been greatly affected by COVID and so have many of our families. Having a store at Hughes Landing gives us a tremendous opportunity for our enterprises to make up some of the much needed lost revenue. Our citizens—adults with disabilities—have poured every ounce of their hard-to-learn skills into making and growing products to sell."

The three-month engagement comes after the store proved popular with Hughes Landing shoppers during the holiday season, according to Jim Carman, Houston Region president of the Howard Hughes Corp. The retail location will operate Tue.-Sat. from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. www.thewoodlands.com; www.brookwoodcommunity.org

2. A new regional Women's Business Center serving Montgomery County as well as Chambers County and east Harris County launched in January. The new center is one of 20 established through a nationwide U.S. Small Business Administration grant funding initiative.

"We are thrilled to partner with the SBA in opening another Women’s Business Center, providing resources and tools for our region’s women-led organizations to launch and expand," said Suzan Deison, founder, president and CEO of the Greater Houston Women's Chamber of Commerce, in a statement. "We are honored the SBA chose to partner with us to expand needed services in Montgomery, East Harris and Chambers counties, especially during these challenging times."

Deison said the regional resource for women-led businesses is currently operating virtually, with plans to expand its presence with in-person meetings, workshops, community partnerships later this year from the Greater Houston Women's Chamber of Commerce in Houston. 713-782-3777. www.ghwcc.org

The local Fresh Coat franchise, which first opened in 2018, now offers pressure washing, drywall repair and gutter cleaning in addition to its namesake residential, commercial and agricultural painting services under owner Paul Jetter.

“Being a small business owner gives you a unique opportunity to make a difference for the people in your community, create jobs and give back. My home is a point of pride for me and I’m looking forward to help others feel that too by creating spaces they love, making improvements and helping them avoid future maintenance issues,” Jetter said in a statement.

4. The Woodlands-based TWFG Insurance will mark its 20th year in business in 2021, and it plans to celebrate the anniversary in July with a national convention at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center.

There are many growth opportunities and innovative technology solutions to be created for our industry, with the ultimate goal of providing coverage and peace-of-mind for our customers while paving the way for our agents to build successful businesses.
