Aaron Craft announces return to TBT for Carmen's Crew - 247Sports

It has been rumored and speculated and discussed for the last several months, but now Ohio State basketball fans have official word. Former Buckeye point guard Aaron Craft will briefly come out of his short retirement to once again join Carmen's Crew in this summer's The Basketball Tournament.

The Carmen's Crew roster update was announced on Monday afternoon on head coach Jared Sullinger's Twitter account. As he has with most of the roster additions for the team's 2021 TBT run, Sullinger tweeted out a video of Craft announcing his return.

"What's up TBT 2021," Craft's video begins. "This is Aaron Craft sending in my video to play for Carmen's Crew yet again. They're still taking me, even though I took a year off. I'm excited to be back with the guys and a chance to compete at a high level against great players. Hopefully we win some money."

Coming out of Findlay, Ohio in 2010, Craft was a four-star prospect and the 20th ranked point guard in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite. As a freshman, Craft was an important player for a Buckeye team that finished with a 34-3 record before being upset by Kentucky in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. Craft played in all 37 games, starting one, and led all Big Ten players in assists with 177 to just 79 turnovers. He broke the Ohio State record for single-game assists with 15 against George Mason in the NCAA Tournament and was named the Big Ten's Sixth Man of the Year.

As a sophomore Craft stepped into the starting lineup for the Scarlet and Gray and averaged 8.8 points, 4.6 assists and 2.5 steals per game. He became the third Ohio State player to be named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. On the way to helping Ohio State to the Final Four, Craft averaged 10.4 points, 5.2 assists and 3.2 steals per game in the NCAA Tournament.

Craft started all 37 games as a junior, averaging 10 points, 4.6 assists and 2.1 steals per game. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of Big Ten Tournament after averaging 12 points, six assists and two steals in three games as the Buckeyes brought home the conference title. The Scarlet and Gray again made the NCAA Tournament, losing in the Elite Eight to Wichita State.

In his final year with Ohio State, Craft, along with classmate Lenzelle Smith Jr., reached 100 wins in 119 career games, the fastest Buckeye players to hit that mark. Craft averaged 9.8 points, 4.7 assists and 2.5 steals a game as a senior, was once again named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and helped the Scarlet and Gray reach the Big Dance, losing in the first round to Dayton.

Craft went on to have a successful professional basketball career, largely in Europe, after graduating from Ohio State. The four-time Big Ten All-Defensive Team player announced last fall that he would retire after the season and return to Ohio State for medical school. Before hanging up his basketball sneakers, however, Craft joined Carmen's Crew in the 2020 TBT for what appeared to be one last run. But a loss in the first round a tightened TBT field likely didn't sit well and the point guard is back again this year.

Other players already announced on Carmen's Crew roster for the 2021 TBT run are big men Jeff Gibbs and Julian Mavunga.
