Here’s a chance to sit in the Pirates dugout. Or take a walk along the warning track in the outfield.
Maybe take a trip around the bases.
The annual All Star Craft Beer, Wine & Cocktail Festival returns to PNC Park on Pittsburgh’s North Side after being canceled last year because of the pandemic.
The event is Saturday, Oct. 16.
There will be hundreds of craft beer, wine, and cocktail brands from around the world, as well as locally produced. They’ll be offering samples throughout the ballpark and will extend onto Federal Street.
This will be the third-annual event, which has sold out the past two times. It’s being held in fall instead of the summer.
“I think it’s popular because it’s something different,” said Ray Sheehan, owner at Upcoming Events, a Bucks County based company producing the festival. “It’s not a typical ‘four-wall space.’ It’s in a beautiful ballpark. It is cool to be in a space where athletes you admire and respect play.”
There are two sessions. The first is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The second is 8 p.m. to midnight.
There are VIP and Ultra Access choices where guests are admitted an hour earlier. Prices are $49.95 to $79.95.
Tickets can be purchased here.
In addition to admission, those who purchases tickets will receive a keepsake glass for sampling and two tickets to a 2022 Pirates game.
Choosing PNC Park was a natural choice, said Sheehan, after a similar event began at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies.
“PNC Park is without a doubt one of the top five event spaces we provide on a national level,” Sheehan said. “The Pirates organization has been wonderful to work with, and the park provides an amazing backdrop with such a wonderful view of the city of Pittsburgh.”
Sheehan said having an event at a ballpark is a place where guests can social distance because of its size.
He said more than 10,000 attend the festival, which is the largest outdoor beer, wine and cocktail event in the region.
There will be food available for purchase, entertainment and games such as giant Jenga, Connect Four and cornhole. There will be the Great Pittsburgh Pierogi Race, a favorite happening when people dressed in pierogi costumes run 280 yards at the end of the fifth inning at Pirates games.
Guests will see local brands as well as some new selections.
He said the event gives guests an opportunity to try different brands so the next time they go to buy beer, wine or alcohol to make a cocktail they will know which one to purchase.
A portion of proceeds will be donated to The Trauma Survivors Foundation, an organization that provides therapists for emergency response during and after traumatic events.
“It is really important to have a charitable aspect to this event, “ Sheehan said. “It’s a way to help others who have been through traumatic events, especially in the past year or more during this pandemic.”
The event has been nominated by USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Travel Awards for best beer festival.
“The company having to pivot and transition this summer festival into a fall event this year has been a challenge,” Sheehan said. “You have no idea how much we missed entertaining people. It’s going to be great seeing everyone at PNC Park.”
