LIMA — On a chilly, overcast Saturday, Temple Christian School did its best to spread toasty holiday cheer.

Many artisans and businesses peddled their wares as part of the five-hour Harvest Market & Craft Fair at the TCS gymnasium on Brower Road.

Among items sold during the fundraising affair were refurbished furniture, homemade food, apparel and hand-made crafts.

Admission was $2, as proceeds from the event benefit the school’s junior and senior classes, according to Megan Kinnear, a teacher at TCS.

Jodi Callahan, the high school administrative assistant who also served as a vendor Saturday for House to Home boutique, said there were roughly 25 vendors despite a few cancellations.

Students volunteered to lend helping hands at the event, secure in the knowledge that donations and profits would “go toward their classrooms and field trips,” according to Callahan.

“It’s good for the kids all around,” she said.

Barbecue chicken dinners were available for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis.

One local vendor, LaDeena Williams, kept things simple but tasty by showcasing her gourmet caramel apples. She has no personal connection to the school, but an ex-colleague notified her about the craft fair.

Williams said her confections, which she has created for five years, have no secret recipe — it’s “just a hobby and little side hustle.”

A few tables down, Eric Greer was selling a more unconventional product: soap made via goat milk, as part of his wife Christine’s company Bended Knee Acres. Eric and Christine are breeders of Nigerian dwarf goats.

“We turn their milk into homemade soaps that have less chemicals than those sold at big-box stores,” said Greer, whose daughters used to attend Temple Christian.

Elsewhere in the venue, artist Nicholas Graham was a study in concentration while painting.

As the fair got underway, Callahan was optimistic, though the number of participants had fallen short of expectations.

“We hope to keep this going and get more parents and students to provide continued support,” she said.
