Ottawa Recreation announced dates and locations for its summer giveaway featuring bags of crafts and Tiny Tot activities.
Supervisors will be in city parks handing out activity packages for children in curbside fashion. The program is designed to help fill the void created when Ottawa Rec was forced to cancel most of its summer programs in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re just going to give those away,” Ottawa Rec Director Mark Astle said of the craft kits during the May announcement about the revised program. “People can drive by the parks when parks are open; we’ll have a schedule for that.”
That schedule is out, running every Tuesday and Thursday from June 16 until July 23. It includes 10 a.m. to noon shifts at Turnberry, Kiwanis and Lincoln-Douglas parks, as well as Lincoln School (east side); and 1:15 to 3:15 p.m. shifts at Hollywood, Rigden and East Side parks, as well as McKinley School (west side).
Crafts are designed for children ages 7 to 12. Tiny Tots items are intended for children ages 3 to 6.
Ottawa Recreation will post video instructions for activities on its YouTube page.
“We can’t do our whole program,” Astle told The Times last month, “but we’re hoping we can do some things that will make the summer go a little bit faster and be a little more fun.”
