Greensburg Craft Beer Week pairs brews with food, fitness, fun - TribLIVE

You’ve heard of the Bermuda Triangle, but have you heard of the Brewmuda Triangle? Beer lovers will have an opportunity to explore it during Greensburg Craft Beer Week.

The Brewmuda Triangle is one of the signature events of the fifth annual celebration of all things heady and hoppy, set for Sept. 17-26 at breweries and other locations in and around Greensburg.

Beer lovers can take a free trip around the triangle on Sept. 25, catching a bus as it makes a circuit from Helltown Brewing in Export to Yellow Bridge Brewing in Delmont and on to Devout Brewing Co. back in Export.

The bus will set out at noon from Helltown and make its last 30-minute round at 7:30 p.m. Riders can get on and off at any stop. Beer, food trucks, music and “Brewmuda Triangle” T-shirts will be available at each location.

Because of the covid-19 pandemic, last year’s craft beer week was scaled down with mostly outdoor and takeout events, said organizer Jessica Hickey of the Downtown Greensburg Project. This time around, more than 35 events — indoor and outdoor — are planned.

For those concerned about safety precautions, she said, “We’ll definitely still have lots of outdoor events. We always do, since it’s September and the weather usually is still really nice.”

Home brewers showcase

Another signature event, Home Brew & Chill, is set for 3 p.m. Sept. 19 at All Saints Brewing Co., at Route 119 and Roseytown Road in Hempfield.

Brews from more than 20 home brewers will be available for tasting, with “Best in Show” and “People’s Choice” honors up for grabs at the ticketed event. Live music, food trucks and sales of beer week merchandise also are planned.

General admission is $40. VIP admission at 2 p.m. is $55 and includes light bites, beer tasting, a tasting glass and tall boy-sized can cooler.

The week kicks off, literally, from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 17 with a Kickball Kickoff at the West Point Little League fields, 100 Volunteer Drive, Hempfield. Players 21 and older can sign up on the event website. There is no fee to play.

The “GBGCBW21 Collaboration Beer” will be available for purchase during the kickoff, along with food from Marino’s American Eatery. The signature beer was created with input from all the participating breweries, Hickey said. It was brewed at Yellow Bridge.

“It’s a dry-hopped lager,” she said.

Following the kickoff, “GBGCBW21” will be available in cans at Yellow Bridge, Invisible Man, Quinn Brewing Co. in Irwin and Noble Stein Brewing Co. in Indiana. Drafts will be available at Oliver’s Pourhouse and Invisible Man Brewing, both in Greensburg, and Marino’s American Eatery and Tapped Brick Oven & Pourhouse, both in Hempfield.

A portion of sales will benefit local charities still to be determined, Hickey said.

Food, fitness, more fun

A number of breweries also have paired up for other collaborations, which will be released throughout the week. Information on those brews and release dates is available on the website.

Events also are planned to help people stay fit through more than a week of beer tasting. On Sept. 20, there’s Beerasana at All Saints, featuring an hour of vinyasa yoga with Red Brick Yoga. There will be pole dancing and brews on Sept. 21 at FitnessEnvi in Greensburg. A fun run takes off on Sept. 25 from Hugo’s Taproom in Greensburg.

There will be events pairing food and beer, music and beer and even dogs and beer. Others will benefit local charities including All But Furgotten animal rescue, Feeding the Spirit and Stoneybrook Foundation Therapeutic Riding Center.

At 7 p.m. Sept. 22, The Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg will host a panel discussion on the local craft beer scene, including panelist Day Bracey, founder of Pittsburgh’s Barrel and Flow Festival, which celebrates Black-led breweries and beers created in collaboration with Black artists and cultural figures.

The 10-day beer bash wraps up from 2-6 p.m. Sept. 26 with live music, food trucks, yard games and an outdoor bar in the Wib Albright Parking Lot, behind Green Beacon Gallery at 235 W. Pittsburgh St.

Some events require preregistration and a fee.
