It’s funny — when I originally crafted the first few installments of this series, Johnny O’Bryant was an immediate candidate. Well, here we are, and JOB has returned to Wisconsin as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks, rounding out the team’s roster. So, where did JOB go during his time away from the Brew City? Let’s dive in and look, shall we?
Johnny O’Bryant was waived by the Bucks in June of 2016. A few months later in September, he signed with the Washington Wizards. However, his time there didn’t even last a month, as he was waived in October prior to the regular season.
He was then acquired by the Northern Arizona Suns of the NBA D League. He played pretty well during this stint, which come January, earned him a 10-day contract with the Denver Nuggets. Following a second 10-day contract, he then returned to the D League, where he participated in the league’s All-Star Game.
The next month, O’Bryant secured another 10-day contract, this time with the Charlotte Hornets. That then developed into another 10-day contract, and then ultimately a multiyear deal with the team.
Fast forward a year to February of 2018. O’Bryant and two future second-round draft picks were sent to the New York Knicks for Willy Hernangomez. He was then released by the Knicks.
That would then begin JOB’s international career. In late July of 2018, he signed with the Israeli team Maccabi Tel Aviv in the EuroLeague. He saw some success that year, as he was a part of the team’s journey in winning the Israeli League Championship.
During the offseason, O’Bryant signed with Lokomotiv Kuban of the VTB United League. During his stint there, he averaged 16.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. He would leave the team less than a month later due to personal reasons.
In October of the same year, JOB would land with Crvena Zvezda of the Adriatic League. There would be some tension during his time there. He and head coach Dejan Radonjiic would have a conflict during a game, which led to a 10-day suspension for O’Bryant. He would then part with the team in February of 2021.
O’Bryant would then spend the rest of the 2021 season with Turk Telekom of the Turkish Basketball Super League.
And that takes us to current day, where Johnny O’Bryant landed back in Milwaukee following the release of Elijah Bryant. It’ll be interesting to see what JOB has in store for his second stint in Milwaukee, and it’s nice that he’ll already have some connections with members of the team.
