Florida broke its record for the largest one-day increase in new COVID-19 cases for the third consecutive day on Saturday as the state reported 4,049 new cases.
The new high surpasses the record previously set Friday, when 3,822 new cases were reported and the record before then on Thursday, which saw 3,207 new cases.
The Florida Department of Health now reports 93,797 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the state since the start of the pandemic.
Statewide, 40 additional people have died due to COVID-19, growing the death toll to 3,144.
The state's hospitalization rate on Saturday increased by 165 people to reach 12,939 since the start of the pandemic. That number does not reflect the number of current patients in the hospital.
Escambia County up to 1,170 cases, Santa Rosa County at 342
Escambia County reported 43 new cases on Saturday to grow its total since the pandemic started to 1,170. Of those, about 21% are non-Florida residents.
Santa Rosa County reported 12 more cases to reach a total of 342.
No new deaths were reported in either county on Saturday.
One additional person was hospitalized in Escambia County since Friday, growing to total since the start of the pandemic up to 75. The hospitalization rate in Santa Rosa County remained at 26.
Escambia County has had 41 deaths due to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. Of those, 32 have been either residents or staff of long-term care facilities.
Since June 13, another four residents of Escambia County long-term care centers have died. Two additional residents died at the Bayside Health and Rehabilitation Center, which has had a total of 14 resident deaths since the start of the pandemic. Two residents have also died at Willowbrooke Court at Azalea Trace, the only deaths reported at that facility to date.
Additional deaths have previously been reported at the Southern Oaks Care Center a nursing home (eight residents and one staff member); the Brookdale Pensacola assisted living center (four residents); Arcadia Health and Rehabilitation Center (one resident); Rosewood Health and Rehabilitation (one resident); and Homestead Village Retirement Community (one resident).
Santa Rosa County's death toll remains at nine people, including seven inmates at the Blackwater River Correctional Facility in Milton. The most recent death was reported more than a month ago.
About 4% of the 27,813 people tested to date in Escambia County and 3% of the 11,218 tested in Santa Rosa County have been positive for the virus.
