DeSoto County teacher's assistant arrested on molestation charges, records show - FOX13 Memphis

DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. — A DeSoto County Schools teacher’s assistant was arrested this week on molestation charges.

The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department charged Amy Craft with molesting-touching a child for a lustful purpose.

Craft was a teacher’s assistant at Overpark Elementary until investigators say she was allegedly caught in a car with a child in front of another school.

DCSD said early Thursday morning at approximately 1 a.m., a deputy on routine patrol spotted a suspicious vehicle in front of Center Hill High School on Kirk Road in Olive Branch.

The Deputy approached the vehicle and found 48-year-old Amy Craft, a teaching assistant with DeSoto County Schools, with a minor under 16.

Craft is charged with fondling. The Sheriff’s office says she is possibly facing additional charges in other jurisdictions.

FOX13 reached out to the school for a statement and received the following statement:

“School officials are cooperating fully with local law enforcement regarding the former teacher’s assistant.”

Craft will appear before a Justice Court Judge, but a court date has not been set at this time.

FOX13 spoke with parents who were picking up their kids at Overpark Elementary, where Craft worked. They said she had been there for several years and described her as ‘nice.’

A public records check showed Craft lives at a home in Byhalia. It’s not far from Overpark Elementary. A man there told FOX13 to leave the property and wouldn’t say whether Craft had an attorney. Calls to Craft’s phone number have gone unanswered.
