After a year away, the Deer Hunters Widows Craft Show is back - Daily Mining Gazette

HOUGHTON — Shoppers can get a head start on their holiday shopping this weekend at The Daily Mining Gazette’s annual Deer Hunters Widows Craft Show.

As deer hunters prepare to return to the woods, vendors are getting ready to return to the Copper Country Mall for the annual holiday craft show. The event takes place on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This year’s show will be attended by 55 local vendors offering a variety of products, making it a perfect venue for shoppers to discover unique gifts.

Craft and product offerings at this year’s show will include jewelry, Tupperware, woodworking items, handmade crafts, wreaths, rock collections, jams and jellies, canned goods, antiques, bags from Thirty-One Gifts, Finnish made items, and much more.

“We are excited by the response of local vendors,” said Yvonne Robillard, advertising director for the Daily Mining Gazette. “There’s something for everyone on your Christmas shopping list.”

A variety of food options will also be available. Karen Raymond, a returning participant who has sold jewelry, food, and drinks at the show in the past, will be serving boba tea, iced coffee, and other beverages this year.

Raymond said she is excited to share tapioca boba tea, a drink that contains tapioca pearls, with the Copper Country community. “These boba drinks are very popular and not many people have had them around this area,” she said. “I’m excited to let the community know what this is like.”

Kate Nordeng-Hoel, another returning craft show vendor and a self-described “avid sewer,” will be offering a variety of her own home-made sewing products including aprons, table runners, and baby items. “If you can sew it, I at least try to make it,” she said.

“They make excellent gifts,” she continued. “Some seasonal things and a lot of things that you would like to give for a baby gift or even wedding gifts.”

Nordeng-Hoel also reflected on her favorite aspect of the craft show, “The main thing I like about it is I love talking to people,” she said. “And for me, it’s a lot of fun to see so many people coming in and buying things that are local, that other people have made with their own hands.”
