SOUTH DEERFIELD — Dozens of local craftspeople will set up booths at Frontier Regional School Saturday morning as the annual Deerfield Police Association Holiday Craft Fair returns.

After last year’s fair was canceled because of the pandemic, the event is returning in full force for its 38th edition as more than 65 craftspeople from Franklin and Hampshire counties showcase their works from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“There are indoor and outdoor vendors, mostly in the gymnasium and cafeteria,” said Deerfield Police Detective Sgt. Adam Sokoloski. “We have over 65 local vendors that are committed to the show this year, many are returning and some new ones. … We’ve been sold out for months. There’s very high interest.”

Sokoloski said there will be wreaths and holiday items on sale to go along with the various crafts. There is also a silent auction and a “super raffle” where attendees can win something made by each vendor at the fair.

“Each crafter donates something to our raffle,” Sokoloski said. “There’s a lot of great prizes.”

Sokoloski said the fair is a fundraiser for the Deerfield Police Association, which uses the money to fund community programming. He noted the association has raised money for youth activities, Frontier’s school trip to Washington D.C. and events for senior citizens in the past.

“It really supports people in the area and, by us hosting the show and having crafters, we as a police association, we’re able to support tons of activities,” Sokoloski explained.

Deerfield officers will be cooking up food donated by Wolfie’s Restaurant and other refreshments will be available throughout the day.

Parking and admission to the fair are free.

The Deerfield Police Association timed the craft fair as a “local Saturday” event to coincide with Small Business Saturday. Sokoloski said the event is also a chance for the community to come together and celebrate a more cheerful holiday season than last year.

“It’s part of getting back to normal,” Sokoloski said. “We’re really looking forward to everyone coming out and enjoying that.”
