DeKALB, IL – Voting is now open for the 2022 Victors Play of the Year, which will be presented at the 13th annual "Victors" awards show at the Carl Sandberg Auditorium on Thursday, May 5 at 7 p.m. This is the first year the Victors will be an in-person event since 2019.This year's nominees are Nick Markanich's game-winning goal in men's soccer's 2-1 double overtime win in the MAC Championship, Amberly Rodriguez's home run-robbing catch in centerfield for softball against Ball State, Tyrice Richie's two-point conversion in football's season-opening win at Georgia Tech, and wrestling's Izzak Olejnik's takedown in overtime in his 165-pound MAC championship match.
Voting on the four semifinalists will be available on NIUHuskies.com until 5 p.m. on Monday, May 2. The top two plays will then be voted on via Twitter on @NIUAthletics on the day of the Victors.
Free to the public, the all-sports awards show celebrates the academic, athletic and community service accomplishments of NIU student-athletes over the past year. The red carpet will be rolled out and the doors open at 6 p.m. to begin the social hour with the student-athletes, coaches and athletics staff.
More than 20 different awards including male and female athlete of the year, newcomer of the year, along with Mr. and Miss Victor E. Huskie, an award given to student-athletes who represent commitment to developing as a champion in the classroom, in competition and in life. Results from the 2021 spring, 2021 fall and 2021-22 winter sports were considered in the nominations.
