In this installment of Where Are They Now presented by Avenger Logistics, we highlight the successful playing career of former volleyball student-athlete Lauren Barr (Gainer) and shed light on her recent real estate successes right here in the Scenic City.

Lauren, a 6-0 middle blocker, arrived at UTC as a true freshman out of Boca Raton High School in sunny Boca Raton, Florida ahead of the 2012 fall season. As former head coach Travis Filar's first recruit, Lauren made an immediate impact on the program after appearing in 29 matches, and starting 26, during her rookie season.

Barr was a fixture in the four-year class who helped turn around the successes for the volleyball program at Chattanooga. UTC won 14 matches during that 2012 season, the most in a season in nearly five years, and started to turn momentum inside the program.

Although the Mocs struggled in 2013 (4-27, 3-13 SoCon), the togetherness never faltered and the vision on earning the program's first championship in over a decade remained steady. UTC bounced back with a 13-19 (6-10 SoCon) record in 2014 before all the pieces of the puzzle clicked in 2015.

Chattanooga put together a historic season, finishing a blistering 26-6 (.812) overall and 13-3 (.812) in SoCon play to claim the first regular season title for the team since 1998. The dream season included a program record 11-match win streak and the squad's first "Power 5" win since 2004 following a 3-2 victory at Virginia Tech.

The team's success was vastly aided by the play of Barr. The middle blocker led the team in total blocks in each of her final three seasons while finishing second on the team as a freshman in 2012. Offensively, she led the team during the 2014 season with a .323 attacking percentage, which is eighth best all-time at UTC in a single season.

Factoring in career numbers, Barr ranks among the best blockers and attackers to ever suit up for the Mocs in program history. She finished her career ranked second all-time in block assists (283), fifth in total blocks (344), seventh in solo blocks (61) and ninth in attacking percentage (.272).

Graduating from UTC with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Integrated Studies Pre-PA in 2016, Barr went back to Florida to compete for the University of North Florida beach volleyball team as a graduate student. She earned her Master's in Business Management in 2017.

She then found herself back in the Scenic City and transitioned into the real world where she found herself enjoying vast success in the real estate industry. After marrying Josh Barr in 2018, the duo dove head first into creating Barr Built, located right here in Chattanooga.

The pair has seen immediate success in the industry as they claim over 60 units in the local area and have grown year-over-year in all aspects of the business. The tandem's impact on the real estate landscape can be seen all around town and extremely visible on social media platforms such as Instagram (@BarrBuiltHome) where they have built a strong social following.

What drew and attracted you to Chattanooga/UTC when committing out of high school?
The biggest factor that played into my decision was the coaching staff and team dynamic. Chattanooga felt like home as soon as I got here because of the people. I was Coach Travis's [Filar] first recruit so I knew the program would change as soon as he got to campus and I totally bought into his vision for a family focused championship program.

What was it like making an immediate impact when you arrived as a freshman to help turn the program around?
I came in with a big recruiting class and each one of us got to play a huge role on the court our freshman year. We were led by a strong group a seniors that really set the foundation for us and helped instill the culture that we carried on for the next four years. It wasn't all rainbows and butterflies, we had some growing pains, tough losses and brutal workouts but every part of our journey made us better and ultimately prepared us for our championship season.

What are some of your favorite memories of the 2015 championship season and team?
The 2015 championship season started as soon as the 2014 season ended when the leadership team got together and decided what we wanted our next and last season to look like. We worked hard in the off season and made sure the freshmen class coming in would have a solid foundation. From there, there were tons of victories that got us to our end goal. We had a record start to the season, beat Virginia Tech to win their home tournament, rolled into conference with a record win streak and then had a couple come back wins in the end of the season when we needed them.

My favorite win was when we were on the road at ETSU, down 14-4 in the fifth set and came back to win and clinch a share as a regular season champion. The next weekend we fought to win another five-setter at WCU to win the regular season outright. From day one we believed we would be a championship program and it took three years of building and grinding and I'll never forget it!

What's it mean to you to continue making an impact in the Chattanooga community behind your real estate advancements?
I was born and raised in south Florida and when I committed to UTC I never thought Chattanooga would be the long term play for me but this city has a way of making you never want to leave! I met my husband at UTC, and soon after getting married we decided to work together as full time real estate investors. In five years, we've done over 100 deals here and are truly grateful to get to build and restore the city that we love and help it feel like home for others as well!
