Pomona Cider Co., which will make and sell craft cider, opens on Milwaukee's east side by early summer - Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

An unusual craft cider making operation is coming to Milwaukee's east side — a first for the city.

Pomona Cider Co. is to open by early summer at 2159-2163 N. Farwell Ave.

It will operate as a tavern, with a limited number of wine and local craft beer options.

Pomona Cider also will have a wood-fired oven for baking flatbreads and other appetizers.

But it won't be a restaurant, said Robert Purman, Pomona's chief cider maker, and Tom Gabert, general manager.

The focus will be on ciders, with Pomona becoming only the second hard cider bar in Milwaukee. The first, Lost Valley Cider Co., opened in 2016 at 408 W Florida St., in Walker's Point.

The Farwell Avenue building, where renovations are to soon begin, will include fermenting equipment that creates hard cider out of apples and other fruit, Purman said.

The 2,100-square-foot building will have indoor capacity for around 55 people, Purman said.

Also, there are plans to build an outdoor deck, overlooking the Oak Leaf Trail, that will provide space for 45 to 50 people, he said.
