ketokdepan.blogspot.com

Two fires that sparked this week have quickly burned hundreds of thousands of acres this week, and quickly joined the top-five largest wildfires in California history.

The LNU Lightning Complex Fire — which has grown to over 300,000 acres, or less than half the size of Rhode Island — is now the second-largest fire in California history.

The blaze comprises multiple lightning-ignited fires burning in Napa, Sonoma, Lake, Yolo and Solano counties. So far, four people have died from the fires, with four others injured, and 500 structures destroyed.

Meanwhile, the SCU Lightning Complex scorched 274,968 acres as of Friday night, with only 10% containment, making it the third-largest fire in California history behind the still-burning LNU Lightning Complex.

Here are the largest fires since 1932 (when record keeping started), according to Cal Fire.

1. Mendocino Complex (collectively the Ranch Fire and River Fire). 459,123 acres. July 2018. Mendocino, Lake, Colusa and Glenn counties.

2. LNU Lightning Complex. 314,207 acres. August 2020. Napa, Sonoma, Lake, Solano and Yolo counties.

3. SCU Lightning Complex. 274,968 acres. August 2020. Contra Costa, Alameda, Santa Clara, Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties.

4. Thomas. 281,893 acres. December 2017. Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.
