ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — Those who qualify for a booster shot will now have a choice between the Moderna and Pfizer vaccine at the Allen County Department of Health's vaccine clinic, officials say.
The department reopened its COVID-19 vaccine clinic in the Appleseed Room at the Coliseum, 4000 Parnell Ave., on Oct. 18 to accommodate booster shots and those who still need their initial vaccinations.
The site is open every weekday except for Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Earlier this month, the FDA approved COVID-19 boosters for those who got the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine and said anyone eligible for an extra dose can get a brand different from the one they received initially.
“While we know it’s safe to mix the booster shots among the types of primary series vaccine someone may have obtained, we wanted to carry both Pfizer and Moderna for the community’s convenience and choice,” Mindy Waldron, Department Administrator for the Allen County Department of Health said. “Some people want to get the same type they had before, and we are happy to offer that opportunity for them.”
The following groups are currently eligible to get a booster shot six months after their initial series of either the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine:
No Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be administered at the Coliseum site at this time.
Appointments for vaccinations can be made by visiting ourshot.in.gov or by calling 211, and walk-ins are accepted as capacity allows.
Parking for the clinic is free, officials say. Visitors to the vaccination site should enter the Coliseum at the Expo Center entrance. Volunteers will be available to direct and aid anyone needing a wheelchair, the release says.
