Community Calendar: Guided bird walk, DAV rummage sale, craft fair - Pine Journal

Guided bird walk, 10-11:30 a.m., Cloquet Forestry Center. Led by Amy Simso Dean, this event will give participants an introduction to birding. Space for the walk is limited, so participants need to call 218-879-1531 to reserve a spot. The program is for people of all ages and is sponsored by the Cloquet Public Library. There is no cost to participate.

Digital Broadcasting Camp for Teens, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library’s Teen Librarian shows students how to record and edit video and audio pieces for YouTube and podcasts. While the event is free, registration is required. Call 218-879-1531 to register.

Family Game Night: Spooky Games Edition, 5 p.m., Cloquet Public Library. Will Hall will teach attendees a new, spooky game just in time for Halloween. Families are invited to bring a game of their own or play one from the library's collection if they prefer. A light snack will be served.

Story Book Walk, Barnum High School Nature Center. Barnum Community Education hosts the walk, where participants can walk the trail at the nature center and enjoy a story. The October walk will run from Oct. 21-25 and features the book “Goodnight Moon” written by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Clement Hurd.

Rummage Sale, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Cloquet Armory. The Carlton County DAV and Auxiliary host the event with all proceeds going toward Carlton County veterans. Donuts and coffee will be available. Those interested can drop off donations for the sale on Wednesday, Oct. 20, or Thursday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Trash, Treasure, Craft and Bake Sale, 8 a.m. to noon, Barnum Senior Center, 3794 Main St., Barnum.

VSO Fall Vendor & Craft Fair, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Community Memorial Hospital. Shop over 40 vendors and crafters plus a large silent auction. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go into helping with local scholarships and items for CMH/Volunteer Service Organization and Sunnyside Health Care Center. If interested in a spot, contact Deanna at djohnson3@cmhmn.org.

Jay Cooke State Park presents: Bee Calm Walk at Riverview Park, 10-11:15 a.m. The event is geared toward children ages 4-8 and their families. Participants will walk down a nature trail, listen to a storybook and learn some fun yoga stretches. While the event is free, registration is required. Call 218-879-1531 to register.

Cloquet VFW Auxiliary Fundraiser, 4-7 p.m., Cloquet VFW, 210 Arch St. Attendees can get a spaghetti dinner for $10. There will also be a bake sale and Country Store Handicrafts sale.

Author Eric Dregni Book Reading and Signing, 10-11:30 a.m., Cloquet Public Library. Author Eric Dregni will read from his latest book, “For the Love of Cod,” a humorous account of his return to Norway with his son to discover why Norwegians are so happy. Refreshments will be provided. Books will be available for signing. Attendees can enter to win a copy of the book.

Pumpkin Run & Walk 5K, 10 a.m., Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College. Participants are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes or wear orange clothing to celebrate the theme of the race. Storytime on the Library Lawn, 10-10:30 a.m., Cloquet Public Library. The free event is for children ages birth to 5 and their caregivers.

COVID-19 Booster Shot Clinic, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Community Memorial Hospital, Cloquet. Only the Pfizer vaccine has been authorized to be given as a booster shot, therefore only those who have received two doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine are eligible. People must wait six months after they received their second Pfizer dose to receive a booster shot. Eligibility is also currently limited to people who are age 65 or older or who those who are residents of long-term care facilities; adults with underlying medical conditions; health care workers and those whose jobs put them at risk for contracting COVID-19. Those who meet the eligibility criteria should call 218-879-1271 and press #2 to register.

Carlton County Trailblazers 55 and older group (formerly the Retired Men's Group), Cloquet VFW. The social hour will run from 11 a.m. to noon, with the meal starting at noon. Men and women 55 and up are welcome the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. The menu will include pork loin, mashed potatoes, tossed salad and dessert for $10. The guest speaker will be Pete Radosevich, local attorney, publisher and “Harry’s Gang” host.
