What are the top craft breweries by sales volume? - cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Each year the Brewers Association comes out with its list of 10 craft breweries based on sales volume. This year’s list, which covers 2020, is composed entirely of breweries whose beers are available on Northeast Ohio shelves.

Top 10 craft breweries with base locations and founding year:

1. D.G. Yuengling and Son Inc. - Pottsville, Pennsylvania (1829): Bills itself as America’s oldest brewery.

2. Boston Beer Co. - Boston and Milton, Delaware (1984): Co-founded by Jim Koch, the brewery is still going strong, experimenting with new styles. Bonus: Your Cousin From Boston ads are worth a chuckle.

3. Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. – Chico, California (1980): Ken Grossman founded this brewery, whose Pale Ale is consistently one of the best examples of the style on the market.

4. Duvel Moortgat USA - Paso Robles, California; Kansas City, Missouri; Cooperstown, New York; with Belgian parent company (1871): “Duvel” means “devil” in Dutch. Quaffable Golden Ale.

5. The Gambrinus Co. – Berkeley, California; and Shiner, Texas (1986): Shiner is the big name here.

6. CANarchy – Longmont, Texas; Tampa; Salt Lake City; Comstock, Michigan; Inglewood, California; and Dallas (2015): Oskar Blues, Cigar City, Wasatch, Squatters, Perrin and Deep Ellum breweries all form CANarchy.

7. Bell’s Brewery – Comstock, Michigan (1985): One of the more established and best breweries in Michigan.

8. Artisanal Brewing Ventures – Downingtown, Pennsylvania; Lakewood, New York; Brooklyn, New York (2014): Charlotte-based Artisanal Brewing Ventures comprises Victory Brewing Co., Southern Tier Brewing Co. and Sixpoint Brewery.

9. Stone Brewing Co. – Escondido, California (1996): Famous for its India Pale Ales in bomber bottles. If you haven’t tried its Xocoveza, splurge a bit. It’s inspired by Mexican hot chocolate and a fantastic sipper.

10. Deschutes Brewery – Bend, Oregon (1988): Started the same year as Great Lakes Brewing Co., the first craft brewery in Ohio.
