Craft fairs abound this weekend | News | jhnewsandguide.com - Jackson Hole News&Guide

Several craft fairs are popping up this weekend to kick off the holiday season.

On Saturday, the Art Association of Jackson Hole is cranking up its 57th annual Holiday Bazaar.

The one-day winter arts and crafts fair runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in Snow King Resort Hotel’s Grand Teton Ballroom and mezzanine. Admission costs $5 along with either proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test.

“We’re happy to be healthily together again,” said Anika Youcha, the Art Association’s communications director. “Last year we did an online event. We’re excited to again provide the opportunity for local artists to show their work.”

Proceeds from the event directly benefit art education classes for students ages 1 to 100, as well as community outreach programs and partnering with more than 30 valley organizations.

As always, the 2021 Holiday Bazaar is a juried fair showcasing a broad selection of gift ideas: lotions and potions, woodwork and textiles, handcrafted ornaments, and fine art photography and paintings.

At the Teton County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall, small and micro businesses from throughout the Teton realm will gather from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a Holiday Craft and Food Fair.

With a grand mix of foodies, creatives, artists, crafters and makers, the fair will give holiday gift shoppers plenty to ponder and the chance to meet and talk to folks responsible for beautiful hand-crafted products and tasty treats to eat and drink.

Vendors include some favorites from summer art fairs and farmers markets, so people can stock up on items they didn’t think about earlier this year while shopping locally.

Participating businesses include Naughty Fruit, I Love Natural, Wind River Farms, Clark’s Creations, Petites Secrets Belgian Chocolates, Pottery, Dinner’s Ready and Wild Life Art.

Music will be provided by DJ Mack, and proceeds will benefit a nonprofit that supports an orphanage.

Saturday and Sunday, the Soroptimist Christmas Tree Festival “A Walk Through Winter Wonderland” will be held at the Jackson Hole Lodge and Convention Center. It runs from 4-6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday. Admission costs $5 and raffle tickets are $10 each, 3 for $25, or 7 for $50.

The elaborately decorated trees are bid on and then often donated to nonprofits around town — or to anyone who needs a little Christmas cheer, as Festival organizer Jenny May Shervin said. Trees may end up at Sage Living, the Senior Center of Jackson Hole, or Community Safety Network, as well as the Teton County Parks and Recreation Center.

The raffle, with gifts from local restaurants, will culminate the Christmas Tree Festival with the drawing at 3 p.m., and then, literally, it’s a wrap.

Shervin is sure this festival will have more financial success a year later into the pandemic and with a little more savvy on how to navigate the virus, and by adding the Saturday preview day. In the past, trees have been auctioned from anywhere between $250 to $4,000.

“We are a family event and seeing the trees is an experience that’s very affordable for everyone, and free for kids 12 and under. Overall, it’s just fun for getting into the Christmas spirit,” Shervin said.

The Sunday event will also feature a Christmas Boutique and silent auction.

Victor will also play host to a variety of community events Saturday. With the holiday light parade kicking off at 5 p.m. at the Victor post office and wrapping up at the Victor City Park, the tree lighting will commence right after Santa jumps off the last float.

Food vendors will be at the Victor City park Saturday evening to serve up hot snacks and warm drinks, and Santa will be making his list and checking it twice on the Victor outdoor stage, with fireworks at 6 p.m.
