Grand Rapids is 'craft beverage capital of the United States,' USA Today writer says - MLive.com

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Grand Rapids has no shortage of places to get a craft beverage.

Breweries, distilleries, brewpubs and taverns aren’t hard to find. But where does the city rank compared to other craft beverage hotbeds?

According to one USA Today writer, at the very top.

Lydia Schrandt, senior photo editor and readers’ choice production manager for USA Today’s 10Best, published an article titled “10 places that prove Grand Rapids is the craft beverage capital of the U.S.” on Thursday, Jan. 13.

“Grand Rapids has the well-earned nickname "Beer City USA,”, but this Midwestern city’s penchant for craft beverage extends far beyond the brew,” she wrote. “Michigan’s second largest city has one of the fastest growing economies in the country, with a steady influx of young professionals and entrepreneurs fueling this thirst for all things craft.”

Schrandt goes on to list 10 of Grand Rapids’ trendy hotspots for craft beverages, including breweries, coffee shops, distilleries and restaurants.

Places listed include Founders Brewing Company, MadCap Coffee, Long Road Distillers, Brewery Vivant, Vander Mill, Butcher’s Union, Sacred Springs Kombucha, Arktos Meadery, Native Species Winery/Speciation Artisan Ales and The Peoples Cider Company.

Grand Rapids has routinely appeared on USA Today’s 10Best lists, which are voted on by readers across the United States.
