Orange County’s Brew Ha Ha Productions has announced its inaugural Punk in the Park Beer & Music Festival featuring Pennywise, The Vandals, The Adicts, Lagwagon and more in partnership with KROQ 106.7 FM.
The event, which will include a dozen-plus bands playing on multiple stages and more than 100 beer tastings from local and regional craft breweries, will take place at Oak Canyon Park in Silverado on Saturday, April 25.
Brew Ha Ha Productions celebrated its 10th anniversary in September and paired its sold-out flagship event with a full blown ska music festival at Oak Canyon Park with The Aquabats!, Save Ferris, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Suburban Legends and more. It’s also responsible for the annual Brew Ho Ho Holiday Ale Festival at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim and the Brew Hee Haw Craft Beer Roundup and Boo Ha Ha Haunted Oktoberfest at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa. It also just produced its first Logger Fest at Oak Canyon Park, which sold out earlier this month.
As the company has rapidly expanded, co-owner Cameron Collins and his crew have partnered with other companies to co-produce music festivals that focus on quality craft beer as much as top-notch artists. Most notably, Brew Ha Ha Productions partnered with Synergy Global Entertainment (SGE) for events such as the Sabroso Craft Beer, Taco & Music Festival and Punk in Drublic festivals in Orange County and Ye Scallywag! and Beer X in San Diego.
When SGE folded and filed for bankruptcy in 2019, it left a huge void for festivals, especially for punk rock music, in Southern California. Not only did the beer and music festivals fade away, so did major festivals like Back to the Beach and Surf City Blitz, both of which were sold-out events that drew about 20,000 patrons per day to Huntington State Beach. SGE also co-produced the annual Musink Tattoo Convention and Music Festival in Costa Mesa with partner Travis Barker of Blink-182, which according to the festival’s official Instagram account, will return sometime in the fall at a new venue in Los Angeles.
Collins said he just couldn’t fathom there not being awesome, larger-scale punk rock music festivals in Orange County this year.
“This was very important to me,” Collins said via a phone interview. “I’ve been involved in so many punk rock festivals in Southern California and, for me, punk rock is something I’ve been into my whole life. I played in punk rock bands when I was a kid, so there are really two things I know really well and that’s craft beer and punk rock. It’s a natural transition for me to take a bigger leap on this and make sure to keep it going and makes sure that there’s still an outlet for people who are into punk and big, quality events.”
Brew Ha Ha Productions has continued to take its Punk in Drublic event across the country and even over to Europe with its partner, Fat Mike of NOFX. Collins added that there will be a Punk in Drublic festival coming to Southern California sometime this year.
Collins also said he’s stoked to see a venue like Garden Ampitheatre in Garden Grove now hosting tons of punk rock shows and he’s watched the landscape of craft beer festivals change as well. Everyone is having to step up their game to offer a more premium experience to keep patrons interested.
“If you look at even just the breweries, you need to give more and you need to provide an experience for people, something that’s unique and something that’s more linear than here’s what we are and what we do,” he explained.
“For me, Punk in the Park was a music festival that I have to have beer at and I’m not making beer the afterthought. We’re working to get some of the most epic breweries ever at this event so a beer lover will be stoked at what we have, but at the same time, a music lover that doesn’t know much about beer isn’t going to feel intimidated by the offerings. We’ll have stuff that’s super approachable and stuff that’s unique, so I think people will have fun exploring styles that they’re not used to seeing.”
Punk in the Park will take place from 1-9 p.m. and will include sets from Fear, Bouncing Souls, TSOL, Guttermouth, Pulley, LA Resistencia, Viernes 13, Chencha Berrinches, The Last Gang and Hilltop Rats. It’s an all-ages show, but those 21 and older can enjoy unlimited beer tastings until 4 p.m. Food trucks and vendors will have food for purchase with vegan and vegetarian options available.
Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21 at punkinthepark.com. A limited amount of early bird tickets are available for $39 while supplies last. Regular ticket prices start at $49 for general admission and $99 for VIP which gives guests early access at noon for an extra hour of beer tasting, a VIP area with upgraded restrooms and a designated bar.
There are also a limited number of meet and greet tickets for $150 that includes VIP area access and access to two meet-and-greet opportunities with various members of the performing acts. If available, day-of tickets will be $60 for general admission and $150 for VIP.
