Access Creativebug for craft classes, tutorials with your library card - Shreveport Times

This week from my home office, aka my couch, I thought I’d feature Creativebug since it’s one of the services that I've been using a fair amount lately. I’ve talked about it before, and you may have seen it advertised in some of the craft stores; Creativebug offers classes and tutorials on a variety of crafts.

To access these tutorials, click on the link on our “Library @ Home” page or go to our databases page. From the homepage of Creativebug, you’ll type in your library card number to gain access to their catalog of craft projects. There’s also an app that you can download, but first create an account through the website using your library card to sign up for a free account.

Recently, I’ve been browsing through their offerings of kids' craft ideas and most of them don’t even require that many supplies. There are painting, sewing, and drawing tutorials to name a few; there are also a few tutorials on the basics of crafting, each focusing on different specifics such as which glues to use for different crafts and the variety of types of paper are out there. In fact, some of my favorites are the paper crafts which, you guessed it, require paper and maybe markers if you really want to add some details. For example, one tutorial teaches you how to make a “House Book.” It’s a fun craft that encourages a child’s imagination when designing the house on one side and then creating a story on the other.

If this appeals to you, then you should also check out the activity and read-along that we’re helping put together with R.W. Norton Art Gallery. Starting Monday, April 13, supplies for the activity will be placed outside the museum for people to drop by to grab, but they are limited, so if you have cardstock, construction paper, and index cards then you’re already set for creating! This first activity will be creating your own mini art gallery. For a tutorial and a book list check out social media or our website for a link to the YouTube video that goes along with the activity. The link included with the video has our suggested list of books you can find on OverDrive or Hoopla that are a fun read-along to go with the activity. We’ll also have links on our “Library @ Home” page to the reading list and the YouTube video, so don’t miss out!
