Katy Boren, 50, president and CEO of Oklahoma City Innovation District, was hired in 2018 to oversee Oklahoma City emerging innovation zone.
Boren is tasked with establishing a new innovation economy by developing a culture of collaboration among Oklahoma’s diverse industries, its entrepreneurs, and its research and academic institutions and creating opportunities for new ideas and advances in cross-cutting technologies.
“I began my career in oil and gas litigation in the late '90s, and most of the faces in the room, attorneys, judges and clients, were men,” Boren said. “That landscape has changed tremendously over the course of my career. Women are leaders and decision-makers in the legal profession, as well as in the corporate setting. There are more women pursuing STEM careers, entrepreneurship and significant positions in government.”
Boren sees the rise of women in these roles as fundamental to ensuring future generations of women leaders continue to thrive.
“My role with the Innovation District is to think strategically and to think long-term about the introduction of the global innovation economy to Oklahoma City,” Boren said. ”We not only have to plan for what will benefit the city over the next few years, but also what investments will make a lasting impact in the decades to come. So, while the end of the century may feel like a long way away, it is exciting to think that the things we’re doing now will still have an impact in 75 years.”
