A bar serving cookies, craft cocktails and shareable plates is opening in downtown Cedarburg - Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

A bar serving cookies, craft cocktails and shareable plates is being opened in downtown Cedarburg by a Cedarburg family.

Union House - Cedarburg, W62 N559 Washington Ave., is moving into the former home of AT JJ's, which closed because of the coronavirus pandemic earlier this month. The new bar is named after one of the building's previous lives as the Union House Hotel.

The bar will have a walk-up window for cookies, including classics like chocolate chip, as well as special kinds, and quick food.

In the future, the bar plans to have the cookies available for delivery.

"I thought it would be a really cool thing to have in Cedarburg," said co-owner BJ. Homayouni. "I know they have them in Milwaukee, and they're very popular there. My kids order cookies delivered all the time, so we thought it would be a really good thing to offer in this area."

In addition to cookies, the bar will feature craft cocktails and shareable plates, such as charcuterie boards.

BJ.'s son, Chris Homayouni of Milwaukee, has been in the restaurant industry for about a decade, working at establishments that include Movida and Don's Diner. Now he'll be the director of Union House - Cedarburg.

"He's always wanted to have his own place," said BJ. Homayouni, who is the executive director of Festivals of Cedarburg Inc. and teaches event management and hospitality courses at Concordia University Wisconsin.

"We had been talking about it for so long," BJ. Homayouni said. "It was time do something for ourselves."

BJ.'s daughter, Madissen Homayouni of Milwaukee, is creating the aesthetic for the bar. BJ. said they plan to give it "city" and "modern" vibes and offer good spots to take photos.

"There's already some corrugated steel and warm woods, so we're hoping to complement some of that," BJ. Homayouni said.

Payman Homayouni, BJ.'s husband, will help with renovations and cleaning, and possibly delivery when it begins.

They hope to have the walk-up window ready to go by Sept. 19 for Visit Cedarburg Saturday, and the rest of the bar open by the end of September.

Pricing and hours are still being determined. BJ. said they plan to have "moderate" prices, and are thinking of being open for lunchtime and dinnertime.

"We really want it to be a gathering place where people can come spend time with their families," BJ. Homayouni said.
