Pottsville’s Yuengling tops list of 50 biggest craft breweries in the nation - lehighvalleylive.com

Every year, the Brewers Association, a nationwide nonprofit trade association, releases its list of top craft brewery based on sales volume. This year, a Lehigh Valley neighbor topped the national list.

D.G. Yuengling & Son came in as the No. 1 craft beer producer in the country for 2019. The brewery, founded in 1829 and headquartered in Pottsville, is the oldest in the United States. Yuengling beat out other notable breweries like Michigan’s Bell’s Brewery, New Belgium Brewing Co. from Colorado and Sam Adams maker Boston Beer Co., which runs a brewery in Upper Macungie Township that is one of its three production facilities in the U.S..

Yuengling wasn’t the only Pennsylvania-based company to find its way into the top-50 craft breweries. Artisanal Brewing Ventures, an umbrella company that includes Downington’s Victory Brewing Co., placed at No. 10, and Hershey’s Troegs Independent Brewing Co. appeared at No. 7.

The Boulder, Colorado-based Brewers Association on April 1, 2020, released its 2019 list of the top 50 producing craft brewing companies and overall brewing companies in the United States, based on beer sales volume.Brewers Association

The association also released a top-50 list of all breweries, including the big dogs that produce beers like Miller and Budweiser. Topped by St. Louis’ Anheuser-Busch, that list found Yuengling still managing to crack the top 10, coming in at No. 7. Artisanal Brewing Ventures was No. 20 and Troegs was No. 37 on the all-brewery list.

Troegs this month also was recognized by Breweries in Pennsylvania for winning its vote-based March Madness bracket.
